Albert Harold Sims was born on October 13, 1923 in Gastonia, Gaston County, North Carolina. He was the son of Allen Harold Sims and Annie Sloan Rankin Sims. Albert entered the service at Raleigh, NC, on Feb. 21, 1943, with two years of college to his credit. He served in the 74th Fighter Squadron, 23rd Fighter Group as a First Lieutenant and Pilot of an aircraft during World War II. He was Killed in Action on March 28, 1945 in China at the age of 21 and is now buried in the Oakwood Cemetery, Gastonia, Gaston County, North Carolina, USA.

1Lt Sims was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China and ranked as a Second Lieutenant.
