Theodore F. Smith, Jr. was born on October 19, 1920. He was the co-pilot of B-24J #42-73194, assigned to the 10th Air Force, 7th Bombardment Group, 493rd Bombardment Squadron. They were part of a six plane formation on the way to bomb the town of Pakokku, Myanmar when they were attacked by fifteen to twenty Japanese fighters. Smith's and two other planes were shot down. He is now buried in the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, Honolulu, Honolulu County, Hawaii, USA.

2Lt Smith was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
