Herbert Steinhardt was born on August 11, 1922. He served in the 76th Fighter Squadron, 23rd Fighter Group as a First Lieutenant during World War II. He died on June 20, 1945 at the age of 22 and is now buried in the Beverly National Cemetery, Beverly, Burlington County, New Jersey, USA. 1Lt Steinhardt was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
