Ewell Coleman Temples was born on November 18, 1921 in Emanuel County, Georgia. Before going into the service, he was interested in Scouting and was Scoutmaster of a troop. He was of the Primitive Baptist persuasion. He entered the armed service and was sent overseas on October 20, 1943. Ewell was killed in action in Myanmar, November 27, 1943, while serving as radio serviceman, 14th Airforce, U.S. Army. He is now buried in the Old Canoochee Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, Twin City, Emanuel County, Georgia, USA.

Ssgt Temples was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
