Barney Lipkin was born on January 29, 1920 in Brooklyn, Kings County (Brooklyn), New York. He was the son of Isidore Lipkin and Beckie Gorodinsky Lipkin. He was the waist gunner of the B-17G, 42-102700 "I'll Get By," which took off from Station 119 in Horham, Suffolk, UK on 2 August 1944. Hit by flak and exploded in mid-air at 1754h near Lisieux, France. Three crewmen survived the event and were taken prisoner (including Lipkin), and seven were killed. Sergeant Lipkin was imprisoned in Stalag Luft IV, Gross Tychow, Germany and survived the war. He died in 1986 in Brooklyn, New York and is now buried in the New Montefiore Cemetery, West Babylon, Suffolk County, New York, USA.
