John Clement Carroll, Jr. was born oc October 23, 1926 in Cheyenne, Laramie County, Wyoming. He was the son of John Clement and Sarah Marie Carroll. He resided in Laramie County, Wyoming prior to the war. John served as a First Lieutenant and Pilot on B-17G #44-8504, 561st Bomber Squadron, 388th Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

B-17G #44-8504, just "after bombs" away while on a bombing mission over the Munich--Reims Air Force in Germany were hit by ground anti-aircraft flak in the left wing causing some of the wing to come off. They crashed near the target in Germany during the war. John was "Killed In Action" in this crash. He is now buried in the Lorraine American Cemetery, Saint-Avold, France. He also has a cenotaph located in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Cheyenne, Laramie County, Wyoming, USA.

1Lt Carroll was one of the many brave Americans of the 388th Bomber Group who lost their lives in aerial operations against the German forces from June 1943 - August 1945.
