Garrigues Albert De Jean was born on March 29, 1918 in Opelousas, St. Landry Parish, Louisiana. He was the son of Benjamin Honore Gustave Dejean and Celia Dejean Dejean. Garrigues graduated from Southwestern Louisiana Institute in Lafayette, Louisiana, shortly before he began work as an advertising manager for the Daily World in 1941. He volunteered for the Air Corps of the Army of the United States on 1 April 1942. He finished his training at Alexandria Army Air Field.

1Lt De Jean served in the 563rd Bomber Squadron, 388th Bomber Group, Heavy as a Pilot on #42-31781 aircraft during World War II. The airplane received a direct hit from flak on the right wing just before bombs away, causing the right aileron and stabilizer to be blown off. The plane flipped on its back and went down with the right wing in flames and disappeared in the clouds at 16,000 feet. He was Killed in Action and is now buried in the Netherlands American Cemetery, Margraten, Netherlands. 1Lt De Jean was one of the many brave Americans of the 388th Bomber Group who lost their lives in aerial operations against the German forces from June 1943 - August 1945.
