John William DuPrey was born in 1919 in Minnesota. He resided in Todd County, Minnesota prior to the war. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on March 24, 1942 in San Antonio, Texas. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Ticket Agent and also as Single, without dependents. John served as a First Lieutenant and Navigator on B-17G #42-40054, 562nd Bomber Squadron, 388th Bomber Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

John was "Killed In Action" when his B-17 was struck by B-17G #42-37886, which had been badly damaged by German aircraft, which caused them both to crash near Schoonberkerveld, southeast of Emmen, Holland (Netherlands). He is now buried in the Netherlands American Cemetery, Margraten, Netherlands. 1Lt DuPrey was one of the many brave Americans of the 388th Bomber Group who lost their lives in aerial operations against the German forces from June 1943 - August 1945.
