2LT Charles Jeanblanc was born on November 21, 1921 and was from Dixon, Illinois On March 3, 1945 he was a crewmember (Navigator) on B-17G (44-88325) of the 1379th Base Unit, 15th Air Force ferrying their aircraft from Iceland to Wales when the plane crashed in bad weather on the Scottish peak of Beinn Edra on the Trotternish Ridge on the isle of Skye near the town of Staffin. The plane was destined of the base Gioa del Colle for operations in Italy with the 15th Air Force. All nine members of the crew perished. The town of Staffin remembers the crew with a plaque on the town war memorial and with a plaque at the crash site. Charles Keith Jeanblanc, 23, navigator in the Army Air Force, who was killed in action in the European combat area, according to a dispatch from the war department. Oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles W. Jeanblanc, he was salutatorian of the Lee Center Community high school class of 1940, and was prominent in athletics. He enlisted in service in August, 1940, receiving his wings in November, 1944. He had been in overseas service since the last of February.
