James Hall Marshall, Jr. was born on May 25, 1922 in Waynesboro, Franklin County, Pennsylvani. He graduated from William Penn Senior High school, class of 1940, and had started as an apprentice in the jewelry trade with Frank C. Bayer, before he enlisted in the service. James entered the Air corps in Sept. 15, 1942, and trained at various American camps, before going to England as a tail gunner. He served in the 561st Bomber Squadron, 388th Bomber Group, Heavy, as a Staff Sergeant during World War II. SSgt Marshall was killed Jan. 30, 1944, over Germany on his 13th mission in a B-17. He is now buried in the Mount Rose Cemetery, York, York County, Pennsylvania, USA. He was one of the many brave Americans of the 388th Bomber Group who lost their lives in aerial operations against the German forces from June 1943 - August 1945.
