John F. Clopper was born on August 9, 1889 in Washington County, Maryland. He was the son of Franklin H. Clopper and Nannie A. Fry Clopper. John served in the US military as a Corporal during World War I. He died in France, of bronchi pneumonia on September 6, 1918 at the age of 29. He is now buried in the Fairview Cemetery, Keedysville, Washington County, Maryland, USA.
