Hector Murray Watson was born in 1913 in Nova Scotia, Canada. He entered the military service in Massachusetts and served in the 563rd Bomber Squadron, 388th Bomber Group (Heavy), as a Technical Sergeant and Radio Operator of #42-5907 "Wing and a Prayer" aircraft during World War II. A member of the Fuller crew, he was killed when their plane crashed on July 25, 1943. The crew was on their first mission and was the first 388th Bomb Group crew to be lost in action. They went down in the North Sea on the return route. TSgt Watson's body was never recovered and is commemorated on the Tablets of the Missing, Netherlands American Cemetery, Margraten, Netherlands. He also has a cenotaph located in Swampscott Cemetery, Swampscott, Essex County, Massachusetts. He was one of the many brave Americans of the 388th Bomber Group who lost their lives in aerial operations against the German forces from June 1943 - August 1945.
