Donald David Wilson was born on February 10, 1920 in Hailey, Blaine County, Idaho. He was the son of Floyd William Wilson and Mary Elizabeth Wilson. Donald served in the 561st Bomber Squadron, 388th Bomber Group (Heavy), as a Second Lieutenant and Co-Pilot of #42-30421 "Ginger Lou" aircraft during World War II.

A member of the Felece crew, he was killed when their plane crashed on October 2, 1943 in the North Sea off Germany. Three to four minutes after having them dropped the bomb load, #42-30421 ran into problems. Apparently it was hit by flak and the propeller on number one engine was feathered while at the same time a minor fire started in number two engine. The aircraft entered a spiral dive while the crew bailed out. Ten parachutes were observed. Wilson's body was recovered from the North Sea 2 miles north of Langeoog Island by a fishing boat from Neuharlingersiel. He is now buried in the Hailey Cemetery, Hailey, Blaine County, Idaho, USA. 2Lt Wilson was one of the many brave Americans of the 388th Bomber Group who lost their lives in aerial operations against the German forces from June 1943 - August 1945.
