On two engines, the Berlin Express struggled forwards in the direction of the Dutch border. The plane lost more and more altitude and Lt Hoehn could not keep the plane in the air. Four crewmen managed to leave the plane before it crashed in the vicinity of Zwolle, killing the remaining 6 crewmen. SSgt Zaskiewicz is now buried in the Ardennes American Cemetery, Neupré, Belgium.
