William Socrates Hortos was born on February 27, 1922 in Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan. He was the son of George Peter Hortos and Culla Kiskira Hortos. William was one of the Greek-American volunteers who served in Company C, 2671 Special Reconnaissance Battalion, an OSS operational group. This "Greek Battalion" aided the Greek armed resistance in 1944 in their fight against the occupying and then withdrawing German Army. In 1946, he moved to New Baltimore. He was a member of the Lentke-Blackwell VFW Post No 7573 in New Baltimore, Mount Clemens F. & A.M. Lodge No. 6, Mount Clemens Moslem Temple No. 51, Mount Clemens Commandery, and Macomb Shrine. William died on May 19, 1975 at the age of 53 in Michigan and is now buried in the Cadillac Memorial Gardens East, Clinton Township, Macomb County, Michigan, USA.
