When George S. Kalliavas was born on February 19, 1918, in Boston, Massachusetts, his father, Efstratios, was 26 and his mother, Eugenia, was 23. He had one daughter with Viola Loupos. He enlisted in the Army on May 26, 1942 in Boston, Massachusetts. George was one of the Greek-American volunteers who served in Company C, 2671 Special Reconnaissance Battalion, an OSS operational group. This "Greek Battalion" aided the Greek armed resistance in 1944 in their fight against the occupying and then withdrawing German Army. He died on February 3, 2006, in Haverhill, Massachusetts, at the age of 87, and was buried in Kingston, New Hampshire.
