When Mike G. Kountouris was born in 1914 in Italy, his father, Gerassimos, was 31 and his mother, Eirini, was 27. He enlisted in the Army on June 5, 1942 in Shelby, Mississippi. Mike was one of the Greek-American volunteers who served in Company C, 2671 Special Reconnaissance Battalion, an OSS operational group. This "Greek Battalion" aided the Greek armed resistance in 1944 in their fight against the occupying and then withdrawing German Army. He married in 1946 in Leon, Florida. He had three children during his marriage. Mike died on December 4, 2005, at the age of 91. He is now buried in the Parkway Memorial Cemetery, Ridgeland, Madison County, Mississippi, USA.
