When Gust C. Kraras was born on March 4, 1921 in Terpsithéa, Peloponnisos, Greece, his father, Christos, was 38 and his mother, Ypapanti, was 41. He enlisted in the Army on September 17, 1942 in Georgia. Gust was one of the Greek-American volunteers who served in Company C, 2671 Special Reconnaissance Battalion, an OSS operational group. This "Greek Battalion" aided the Greek armed resistance in 1944 in their fight against the occupying and then withdrawing German Army.

Gust spent over 60 years in the Wildwood, NJ area, and was very instrumental with the building, beautification, and financial health of St. Demetrios Greek Orthdox Church of North Wildwood, NJ. He also became a businessman and owned a hotel and restaurant and motels in Wildwood, NJ. He died on May 5, 2018 at the age of 97 and is now buried in the Charles Evans Cemetery, Reading, Berks County, Pennsylvania, USA.
