James Papavassiliou was born on April 24, 1920. He enlisted in the Army on January 20, 1943 in Buffalo, New York. James was one of the Greek-American volunteers who served in Company C, 2671 Special Reconnaissance Battalion, an OSS operational group. This "Greek Battalion" aided the Greek armed resistance in 1944 in their fight against the occupying and then withdrawing German Army. He died on September 28, 2008 at the age of 88 and is now buried in the Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Arlington County, Virginia, USA.
