Eleftherios "Fred" J. Pipinias was born on December 15, 1914. He enlisted in the Army on March 8, 1943 in New York. Fred was one of the Greek-American volunteers who served in Company C, 2671 Special Reconnaissance Battalion, an OSS operational group. This "Greek Battalion" aided the Greek armed resistance in 1944 in their fight against the occupying and then withdrawing German Army. Eleftherios died on June 24, 2001 at the age of 86 and is now buried in the Saint Demetrios Greek Orthodox Cemetery, Biddeford, York County, Maine, USA.
