Demetrios Nick Polyzos was born on December 22, 1912 in Greece. He enlisted in the Army on August 17, 1942 at Camp Croft, South Carolina. Demetrios was one of the Greek-American volunteers who served in Company C, 2671 Special Reconnaissance Battalion, an OSS operational group. This "Greek Battalion" aided the Greek armed resistance in 1944 in their fight against the occupying and then withdrawing German Army. He died on March 31, 1993 at the age of 80 in Charlotte, North Carolina and is now buried in the Evergreen Cemetery, Charlotte, Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, USA.
