George J. Stathis was born in 1909 in Greece. He enlisted in the Army on March 10, 1943 in New York. George was one of the Greek-American volunteers who served in Company C, 2671 Special Reconnaissance Battalion, an OSS operational group. This "Greek Battalion" aided the Greek armed resistance in 1944 in their fight against the occupying and then withdrawing German Army. He became a restaurateur after the war. George died on September 16, 1954 in Maine and is now buried in the Mount Olivet Cemetery, Maspeth, Queens County, New York, USA.
