Nicholas Aristides Vanikiotis was born on August 1, 1924. He was one of the Greek-American volunteers who served in Company C, 2671 Special Reconnaissance Battalion, an OSS operational group. This "Greek Battalion" aided the Greek armed resistance in 1944 in their fight against the occupying and then withdrawing German Army. Nicholas died on April 28, 2001 at the age of 76 and is now buried in the Willamette National Cemetery, Portland, Multnomah County, Oregon, USA.
