Alex L. Vellis was born on May 27, 1921. He enlisted in the Army on September 16, 1942 in New York. Alex was one of the Greek-American volunteers who served in Company C, 2671 Special Reconnaissance Battalion, an OSS operational group. This "Greek Battalion" aided the Greek armed resistance in 1944 in their fight against the occupying and then withdrawing German Army. He died on October 21, 1959 at the age of 38 and is now buried in the Woodlawn Cemetery, Wilkinsburg, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, USA.
