John Carroll Long was born on January 4, 1897 in McMinn County, Tennessee. He was the son of John A. Long and Mary E. Long. He served in the Company E, 117th Infantry Regiment, 30th Division as a Private First Class during World War I. PFC Long died on December 6, 1918 in France at the age of 21, of bronchial pneumonia and is now buried in the Cedar Grove Cemetery, Athens, McMinn County, Tennessee, USA.
