Frank Lee Maddy was born on May 13, 1924 in West Virginia. He attended Greenville high school and was employed at Alexandria, VA before entering the service. PFC Maddy entered the armed services in May 1943, received his basic training at Camp Croft, SC and trained as a Paratrooper at Fort Benning, GA. He was assigned to overseas duty in November 1943 and had served in New Guinea, Australia, Dutch East Indies and the Phillipines. He served with 503rd Infantry Regiment during World War II. PFC Maddy was Killed in Action February 19, 1945 at the age of 20, during the battle for the recapture of Corregidor, Philippines against the defending Japanese garrison on the island. He is now buried in the Manila American Cemetery, Taguig City, Philippines. He also has a cenotaph located in New Hope Church Cemetery, Monroe County, West Virginia.
