James Field “Speed” Reed, Jr. was born on November 5, 1915 in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. He was the son of James F. Reed and Mabel L. Brown Reed. James served in the 503rd Parachute Infantry Regiment as a Staff Sergeant during World War II. He was Killed in Action on February 16, 1945 at the age of 29, during the battle for the recapture of Corregidor, Philippines against the defending Japanese garrison on the island and is now buried in the Manila American Cemetery, Taguig City, Philippines.
