Edward M. Ashton was born in 1925 in New Jersey. He graduated from Somerville High School in 1942 and entered the Army, receiving infantry training at Fort McClellan, Ga. He was assigned to the 350th Infantry Regiment of the 88th Infantry Division during World War II. PFC Ashton was Killed in Action on September 28, 1944 in Italy and is now buried in the Florence American Cemetery, Impruneta, Italy. He received a citation for heroism together with the Lieutenant from the 5th Army HQ for eliminating German snipers who were attempting to stop the approach of their platoon to a height on the road to Rome.
