Lester O. Wood was born on January 7, 1910. He was a 1931 graduate of the U. S. Naval Academy and a World War II veteran. Lester was an acting commanding officer of the USS William B. Preston when attached by the Japanese Air Force while anchored in Darwin Harbour (Australia) on February 19, 1942. He died on December 6, 1998 at the age of 88.
