On March 13, 1980 Major George M. Bourque and Capt. Brad A. Logan of the 52nd Tactical Fighter Wing at Spangdahlem Air Base, took off from Zaragosa AB, Spain enroute to Bardenas Reales Weapons Range, Spain were killed when their F-4 Phantom hit San Miguel Peak and crashed in bad weather. The F-4 jet, based at the U.S. field in Ramstein, West Germany, was on a training mission at a gunnery range in northern Spain.It had been flying in formation with two other jets but was separated from them in a cloud bank and hit the highest mountain peak.
