Stanley L. Finseth was born on January 31, 1920 and raised on the family farm. He was the son of Knut Olaus Finseth and Selma Alene Distad Finseth. He graduated from Byron H.S. in 1938. He then enrolled at St. Olaf college and later enlisted in the Air Force in 1942. As navigator of a bomber crew he flew 35 missions in North Africa, but died with his crew when their plane B-17F #42-30126 was brought down by enemy action over Switzerland on October 1, 1943. 2LT Finseth was temporarily buried He was temporarily buried in what was then the American Cemetery in Münsingen, Switzerland. He is now buried in the Kenyon Cemetery, Kenyon, Goodhue County, Minnesota, USA.
