Donald M. Prentice was born on December 7, 1917. He resided in Wyoming County, New York prior to the war. He enlisted in the New York National Guard on January 27, 1941, prior to the war, in Geneseo, New York. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a mechanic and also as Single, without dependents. Donald served as a 2nd Lt and Pilot on B-17F (#42-30126), 416th Bomber Squadron, 99th Bomber Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

Donald was "Killed In Action" when his B-17F was shot down by enemy anti-aircraft fire over Switzerland. He was temporarily buried He was temporarily buried in what was then the American Cemetery in Münsingen, Switzerland. He is now buried in the Glenwood Cemetery, Perry, Wyoming County, New York, USA.
