Leonard Joseph “Leo” Hoffman, Jr. was born on March 31, 1924 in Pennsylvania to Leonard Joseph Hoffman and Madge M. Thompson Hoffman. He was a high school graduate who attended A State Teacher’s College. He served in the 68th Bomb Squadron, 44th Bombardment Group as a Staff Sergeant during World War II. SSGT Hoffman was the Left Waist Gunner on B-24 #42-110049 "Mary Harriet" when he was Killed in Action when his chute failed to open on July 21, 1944. The plane was damaged by a flak in Oberpfaffenhofen, Germany and landed in Switzerland. He was temporarily buried in what was then the American Cemetery in Münsingen, Switzerland. His final resting place is in Elan Memorial Park, Lime Ridge, Columbia County, Pennsylvania, USA.
