Clark E. Husted, Jr. was a graduate of the University of Virginia. He entered the diplomatic service in 1940 and had served as vice consul at Naples and Lyon before coming to Bern, Switzerland. Clark served as the third secretary of the American legation in Switzerland during World War II. He died of pneumonia on November 28, 1944 after a five day illness. He was temporarily buried in what was then the American Cemetery in Münsingen, Switzerland. His final resting place is in Epinal American Cemetery, Dinozé, France.
