When Charles J. Ryan, aged 20, was born on January 1, 1924, in Amsterdam, New York, his father, John, was 34 and his mother, Mary, was 27. He had one brother. Charles served in the 26th Infantry Division as a Private during World War II. He was killed by a sniper in Buschrodt, Luxembourg on December 22, 1944 during the Battle of the Bulge.
