Harrie Albert Winham entered the military service in Pennsylvania. He served in the 382nd Fighter Squadron as a First Lieutenant during World War II. Pilot of the P-51C-7 #43-103338, he took off from station 413 in Staplehurst Airfield for an armed reconnaisance mission. He was shot down in an aerial combat by a fighter Fw190 at 07h25 near the Bonneval farm in the Commune of Charleval (1 km NE) - 14 km north of Andelys. 1LT Winham was initially buried in Charleval, France but later was transferred. His final resting place is in the Lorraine American Cemetery, Saint-Avold, France.
