CPT. Harry Kemp was honored in 2004 by both the Luxembourg Government and by the City for saving many civilian lives. He became a honorary citizen of Diekirch. He passed away on Nov 19, 2006 in San Antonio, TX and is buried at Arlington cemetery. Veteran of World War II, Korea and Vietnam. Colonel, United States Army (Retired). Enlisted in the National Guard's 28th Infantry Division and participated in five major campaigns in the European Theater, including the Battle of the Bulge. During the Korean Conflict, he served as a commander of an Infantry Battalion. He retired from active duty in 1971. Recipient of the Combat Infantryman's Badge, Legion of Merit (2), the Bronze Star Medal with "V" (2), Cross for Right and Freedom from the Netherlands and Commander of the Order of Merit of the Grande Duch of Luxembourg for successfully evacuating the civilian population of Diekirch Luxembourg during the Battle of the Bulge.
