Albert J. Mertz entered the military service in Kentucky. He served in the 11th Infantry Regiment, 5th Infantry Division as a Technician 4th Grade during World War II. He died on January 24, 1945 and is now buried in the Luxembourg American Cemetery, Luxembourg. T4 Mertz was one of the 38 American soldiers killed during the fierce fighting at sub-zero temperatures to recapture the town of Hoscheid, Luxembourg.
