Richard A. Packard, Jr. was born on April 5, 1915 in Menominee, Michigan. He was the son of Richard A. and Isabelle K. Kapps Packard. He served in the 341st Bomb Squadron, 97th Bomb Group as a First Lieutenant during World War II. Pilot of the B-17 #42-3147 "Homesick Angel", he was Killed in Action on November 16, 1943 when their plane was shot down during a bombing raid over Istres, France. The wreck of their B-17 was discovered when the lake was dried up in the 60's. 1LT Packard is now buried in the Zachary Taylor National Cemetery, Louisville, Jefferson County, Kentucky, USA together in a common grave with SSGT Atkins, 2LT Case, 2LT Dustin, and TSGT Garrity.
