Boyd Wendell Brumm, the second of three sons of the family of Oliver "Clayton" Brumm (1892-1965) and Bertha Leota (Lett) Brumm (1893-1953), was born on December 6, 1922, in Yellow Spring Township near Mediapolis, Iowa, and graduated from Mediapolis High School in 1940. As with most young men of that era, he joined the armed forces during World War II.
He served as a Gunner's Mate 3rd Class Petty Officer on the USS PT-503, Squadron 34, USNR, during World War II. He was killed during the attack on a German Minesweeper of the coast of Jersey (Channel Island), on Aug. 9, 1944. He is now buried in the Kossuth Cemetery, Mediapolis, Des Moines County, Iowa, USA.
