John Adams was a 27-year-old sailing master from Boston who served aboard the merchant ship Ida. During the War of 1812, he was captured and held as a prisoner of war at Dartmoor Prison in Princetown, England. Adams died on December 3, 1814, with febris (fever) recorded as his cause of death. He was buried at the American Prisoner of War Cemetery in Dartmoor Forest, Devon, England.
