Robert Frazer Mead was born on June 16, 1916 in Detroit, Michigan. He was the son of James Richard and Matilda Mary Frazer Mead, of Detroit, Michigan, U.S.A. He served in the Royal Canadian Air Force, 431 Sqdn, as a Flight Lieutenant and Pilot during World War II. He was killed while piloting Halifax X-XRay at Croft. The bomber, which was attacked by a Bf 110G-4 flown by Lieutenant Georg Fengler of IV./NJG1, crashed at 0330 hours, at Ranee (Hainut) 26 kms south-east of Mons, Belgium. Lt. Mead is now buried in the Gosselies Communal Cemetery, Belgium.
