Comments:

Noel McHenry Moore was the son of Dr. Noel McHenry Moore and Maisie Chaffe Moore, of Savannah, Georgia, U.S.A. He volunteered for the RCAF before the USA entered the war. He had initially served with 19 Squadron as a Spitfire pilot, and overshot the runway on landing at his base in Norfolk on 5th September 1941, crashing into the perimeter hedge. He escaped uninjured but severely damaged the aircraft. It seems this ended his career as a fighter pilot and he moved to Atherstone to fly Wellingtons. He was awarded a parchment for bravery in January 1942 for his ultimately unsuccessful efforts to rescue a woman who had fallen into the river in Stratford. He was then posted to 419 Squadron in Yorkshire, and was killed on a bombing raid on 30 July 1942. He was buried in Gosselies Communal Cemetery in Belgium.
