Archibald Allen was a 20-year-old seaman from New Jersey who served aboard the merchant ship Impressed. During the War of 1812, he was captured and held as a prisoner of war at Dartmoor Prison in Princetown, England. Allen died on March 3, 1815, with phthisis (tuberculosis) recorded as his cause of death. He was buried at the American Prisoner of War Cemetery in Dartmoor Forest, Devon, England.
