Jose Almeno was a 19-year-old seaman from Carthegenia who served aboard the merchant ship President. During the War of 1812, he was captured and held as a prisoner of war at Dartmoor Prison in Princetown, England. Almeno died on October 24, 1814, with pneumonia recorded as his cause of death. He was buried at the American Prisoner of War Cemetery in Dartmoor Forest, Devon, England.
