Kenneth Kendall Kitts was born on March 20, 1920 in Kokomo, Indiana. He was the son of Sherman Hobart Kitts and Marguerite E. Chuchill Williams Kitts. Kenneth graduated from Kokomo High school with the class of 1930 and was formerly employed by the Frigidaire plant in Dayton, Ohio. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps March 27, 1942 at Baer Field in Kokomo. He served in the 379th Fighter Squadron, 362nd Fighter Group as a Lieutenant and Pilot of the P-47 called "LOKO" during World War II.

On April 8, 1944, Lt Kitts took off from Worminford airfield on an armed reconnaissance mission between Arras and Rouen in France but was unfortunately hit by flak. Kitts' flight leader, Lieutenant Colonel Magoffin, radioed a warning to Kitts, who called back that his oil pressure was dropping, and he asked his wingman, Gordon Larsen, to accompany him home. "We flew toward the French coast for about five minutes when Lt. Kitts called me and said he would not be able to make it," said Larsen. "In about a minute, I observed that his engine had cut out. He immediately started to get ready to bail out. He left the ship at about 2,500 feet. As he bailed out, he hit the horizontal stabilizer. I followed him down until he hit the ground." Kitts fell to his death near St. Saens; he never attempted to open his parachute.

Lt Kitts is now buried in the Crown Point Cemetery, Kokomo, Howard County, Indiana, USA.
