                            Carl Edward Haering, Jr. was born on July 16, 1922 in Chicago, Illinois. He was the son of Carl Edward and Ida Louise Jutzi Haering. He served in the 378th Fighter Squadron, 362nd Fighter Group as a First Lieutenant during World War II. On June 22, 1944, he took from Station 412 at Headcorn, England on a dive-bombing mission to Cherbourg, France. He was shot by flak at 1300h and bailed out from his plane near Brix and evaded capture with the help of the underground but still, he died that day. He is now buried in the Mount Greenwood Cemetery, Chicago, Cook County, Illinois, USA.
