Arthur Grant Sylvester was born on September 20, 1923 in Utah County, Utah. He was the son of George Albert Sylvester and Mary Jane Dall Sylvester. He received his education in Eureka schools and was graduted from Tintic High School in 1941. Arthur was employed by the Southern Pacific railroad and Odgen arsenal prior to his becoming a Air Cadet in March 1943. He entered pilot training at Santa Ana, Cailf. in March, 1943 and received his wings and commission at Luke Field Ariz. on Jan 7, 1944. After futher training at Baton Rouge, La., he went overseas as a P-47 pilot, embarking on May 3, 1944. He served in the 378th Fighter Squadron, 362nd Fighter Group as a Second Lieutenant and Pilot of the P-47 #42-28295 during World War II.

On October 26, 1944, he took off from A-179 airfield at Prosnes, France on a dive-bombing mission to Metz/Courcelles-sur-Nied. He was Killed in Action during the mission and is now buried in the Santaquin City Cemetery, Santaquin, Utah County, Utah, USA.
