Laurie Jones Greenleaf was born on October 26, 1919 in Maine. He resided in Androscoggin County, Maine prior to the war. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on January 2, 1942 in San Antonio, Texas. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as an Actor and also as Single, without dependents.

Laurie served as a First Lieutenant and Pilot on P-47D # 42-28416, 378th Fighter Squadron, 362nd Fighter Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. 2LT Greenleaf, who was stationed at Base d'Étain - Rouvres in France, was "Killed In Action" when he was shot down during a mission to Saarbrücken, Germany by light flak that was stationed at Reifenberg. He was originally interred in France and was later repatriated in the Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Arlington County, Virginia, on January 24, 1949. he was noted as an experienced pilot and had flown 88 sorties, among these were 47 combat missions and he had a total of 117 combat hours. On August 20, 1944, he had shot down a German Me-109 over Paris.
