Daniel A. Sipe, Jr. was born on March 26, 1920. He served in the 378th Fighter Squadron, 362nd Fighter Group as a First Lieutenant during World War II. On February 10, 1944, the group flew an escort for bombers as far as the Zuiderzee north of the Netherlands. Just after leaving the bombers, the Thunderbolt of Lt. Daniel Sipe suffered a balky engine and pulled away from the rest of Blue Flight of the 378th, composed of Lts. Vernon Boehle, William E Hall, and Marion Morphew. 1Lt. Sipe's body was never found and was declared Missing in Action on November 7, 1945. His name is memorialized on the Tablets of the Missing, Netherlands American Cemetery, Margraten, Netherlands. He also has a cenotaphs located in the Allegheny County Memorial Park, Pennsylvania and South Fork Cemetery, Pennsylvania.
